Remove silence from audio and video online

Cut the pauses out of a recording, right in your browser, without uploading anything. Pick audio or video files and save each with its silent parts removed and the rest joined into one continuous file. Videos save as MP4 or WebM, audio files as MP3 or WAV. The tool is built for short clips: silence removal happens on your device, so a long recording can take a while.

How it works

Removing silence, simply explained

The tool listens through the file on your device and finds every stretch quieter than the threshold you pick, lasting at least the minimum silence you pick — those stretches are cut out, and what remains is joined into one continuous file, so speech and music play on without gaps or jumps. A higher threshold catches more sound as silence — −30 dB cuts more pauses than −50 dB — and a shorter minimum silence cuts shorter pauses; the defaults suit most speech. Videos are re-encoded in the format you pick, so the picture keeps conversion quality, and only the first audio track is kept. Audio files are re-encoded as MP3 or WAV. A file with no audio track cannot be cleaned, a file with no silence long enough to cut is left unchanged rather than re-encoded into an identical copy, and a file that is silent throughout is refused rather than turned into an empty file. WebM saves support mono sound only, so a stereo clip saved as WebM is refused — save it as MP4 instead. Everything runs on your device, which keeps your files private but means speed depends on your device — short clips finish quickly, while long recordings can take a very long time, so this tool is best for short clips.
