Converting videos, simply explained
The tool decodes each video and re-encodes it in the format you choose: MP4 plays almost everywhere, and WebM suits web pages. Videos recorded on a phone, including HEVC videos in MOV files, convert like any other. Everything runs on your device, which keeps your videos private but means speed depends on your device — short clips convert quickly, while a long video can take a very long time, so this tool is best for short clips. Converting a file that is already in the format you chose re-saves it and loses a little quality. Only the first audio track is kept, and subtitles are not carried over. HDR videos are converted to standard colour.
