Convert audio files online

Change an audio file from one format to another, right in your browser, without uploading anything. Pick MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC files — or a video file, whose audio track is converted and whose picture is dropped — and save each in the format you choose. The tool is built for short clips: conversion happens on your device, so a long recording can take a while.

How it works

Converting audio, simply explained

The tool reads each file on your device and re-encodes its sound in the format you choose — always a fresh encode, never a copy of the old sound into a new container, so a file in a format a player cannot open comes back genuinely playable. MP3 plays almost everywhere and its bitrate is yours to pick; WAV is uncompressed and larger; OGG carries Opus sound; M4A carries AAC sound; FLAC is lossless and compressed, so it keeps every detail without the size of a WAV. Only the first audio track is kept: a video file converts from its audio track alone, its picture dropped, and a file with no audio track is refused. Channels and sample rate are kept as they are — stereo stays stereo — except that OGG accepts mono sound only (a stereo or surround source is refused for OGG, not mixed down) and always uses the native Opus 48 kHz sample rate, and surround sound is mixed down for MP3 rather than kept channel-for-channel. Everything runs on your device, which keeps your files private but means speed depends on your device — short clips finish quickly, while long recordings can take a very long time, so this tool is best for short clips.
