Compressing videos, simply explained
The tool decodes each video and saves it again at the quality you choose: lower quality usually makes a smaller file, higher quality keeps more detail. Keeping the original format saves an MP4 as an MP4 and a WebM as a WebM; MOV and MKV videos are saved as MP4, because those formats cannot be written here. Only the first audio track is kept, and subtitles are not carried over. HDR videos are converted to standard colour. Every result shows its real before-and-after sizes, even when a re-encoded file comes out larger.

Your file is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to a server or saved in browser storage. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page views and performance; it does not receive PDF contents or filenames. Local processing does not guarantee a PDF is safe to open; only open files from sources you trust.
